Pune on My Plate: Aamir Khan’s Favorites Biryani from Pune’s Iconic SP Biryani
In Sadashiv Peth, Pune, SP Biryani has been a local favourite since 1994, started by Jawar Chorghe. Known for its Sajuk Tupatli Biryani, Mal Mal Mutton Biryani, and Afghani Biryani, this eatery has grown from a 20-table setup to a 300-seater landmark.
The restaurant gained national fame when Aamir Khan tasted and recommended their Mutton Dum Biryani, later recreated for him with a special touch inspired by his mother’s recipe — slow-cooked mutton, basmati rice, ghee, and dry fruits.
Serving around 2,000 customers daily, SP Biryani prepares fresh batches twice a day and ensures top quality by making all masalas in-house. Despite its size, the place retains a simple, homely charm with its traditional metal plates and long-time staff.
Still run by the Chorghe family, SP Biryani remains Pune’s pride — a perfect blend of authenticity, warmth, and timeless flavour.
